    Our client – TATRA TRUCKS a.s.

    Noise testing laboratory for measuring TATRA transmission units VUES Brno s.r.o., as a traditional manufacturer of special electric motors, drives and electrical equipment, has been successfully developing its manufacture of single-purpose testers and test stands for laboratories and production for more than 20 years. One of the basic components of this equipment is a dynamometer and a power supply unit. For test stands focused on testing electric AC machines or gearboxes, these units can be combined into one multipurpose frequency converter. With regard to wide requirements for control functions, drive dynamics, 4Q operation, and communication with parent systems, ASD series asynchronous dynamometers are currently used with torque measuring via swinging stator arms (version P) or ASD series dynamometers with torque measuring with flanged strain-gauge sensors (version S). Modular frequency converters UNIDRIVE from Control Techniques are used for power supply. Using the software versatility of these types of frequency converters, all operating states of the test stand can be met with the minimum number of power electronics components. An economically very effective solution can be achieved by an appropriate combination and programming of these components. As part of innovation of the noise testing laboratory in TATRA TRUCKS a.s., a project was created which fundamentally affected the technology of testing the manufactured transmission units. The test equipment with the closed state conception used until 2016 has been replaced with equipment of the open state conception using two asynchronous dynamometers since the beginning of 2017. This conception allows easy operating of the stand, simple adaptation when changing the type of the gearbox being tested, and a more dynamic run. Due to the wide possibility of operating the test equipment, it is possible to carry out also other tests of equipment such as automatic shifting control, gearbox cranking, etc. 10- or 14-speed transmission units in several type versions are commonly used in TATRA vehicles. A working speed range is defined for each transmission unit for each speed gear at loading with a constant torque at the input of the drive in which the noise test is carried out. With our conception and overall design, the preparatory times of tests has been reduced in the manufacturing of TATRA vehicles and labour productivity has been increased from 3 to 8 units of tested transmission units. When this conception is used in the development laboratory, it is not necessary to manufacture two identical prototype to test them. In the present time, the noise testing laboratory of gearboxes for TATRA vehicles works to full satisfaction of the client.

    Interesting applications

    One of the interesting applications in which you can encounter VUES’s products is outboard marine motors. After several years’ development and testing, Czech company KARVIN presented a range of outboard electric motors designed for boats or yachts with a displacement of up to 5 t. The design based on AFEW6xxx motors has gained a number of satisfied customers since then. The main advantages of these motors from VUES production include reliability, low maintenance demands, high torque, quiet run, and variable speed control. The manufacturer states that in its class it is “the most efficient and fastest outboard electric motor on the current world market.” This is proven by the fact that the motors are used not only on ships operated in the Czech Republic (including boats of the Fire Rescue Brigade), but they are also exported to more than twenty countries of the world such as the USA, New Zealand, the Republic of South Africa, and Mauritius.

    Formula Student 2016 – VSM Antriebstechnik GmbH is sponsoring VUES products

    Again this year several student teams are powered by customized motor solutions from VUES (Saarbrücken, Kaiserlautern, Siegen und Düsseldorf). As in the years before they are sponsored from our German subsidiary VSM Antriebstechnik GmbH. Basis for these special motors is the water-cooled series AFW, especially suitable because of their high power density.   The Formula Student is an international student engineering competition. Student teams from all around the world design, build, test, and race a formula style racing car. The cars are judged on a number of criteria as e.g. acceleration, endurance and autocross.     We wish our Teams to have the right touch for their construction and all the best for this season.


    Environmental Responsibility VUES Brno s.r.o. is aware of its social responsibility for the environment and it aims to create conditions to improve it. Therefore, since the beginning of 2016 it has been engaged in a battery collection system. In cooperation with the non-profit organization ECOBAT s.r.o., which has carried out collection and recycling of portable batteries in the Czech Republic since 2002, two collection points have been newly established on the premises of our company. All employees can now place used batteries in the installed central collection boxes. Support is based on the ecological project called ECOCHEESSE, the ambition of which is to learn families and individuals to sort used batteries. It is also a collection bin for flat batteries which, with its appearance, resembles Emmental cheese and it serves for an easy collection of batteries in offices or households. When the ECOCHEESE bin is full, all that must be done is to take the flat batteries to one of the collection points. The collection and subsequent recycling of such batteries is provided by ECOBAT s.r.o.

    Quality Policy

    Updating the Quality Policy of the accredited testing and calibration laboratories of VUES Brno s.r.o. Compared to the previous period, customers’ requirements have started to grow significantly and also the requirements for other criteria such as effectiveness, reliability, economy, etc. increase. At the same time, also a dynamic growth of organizations cooperating with the laboratories of VUES Brno s.r.o. has been recently observed. Therefore, in 2016 we have updated our Quality Policy, which now complies with the present modern and worldwide trends and reflects the basic elements of VUES’s strategy. Also, it describes the principle for introducing the announced policy into practice. The Quality Policy is a document mandatory for all laboratory staff. Complex access of quality control is an efficient tool on the way to prosperity not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the world.

    The Entrepreneurial Project of the Year 2014

    MOTEK trade fair

    MOTEK is the main world event in the field of manufacturing and assembly automation, feeding equipment and material feed, making processes more effective owing to handling equipment and industrial processing. As a unique platform in this sector it provides an integral image of the whole world of automation. Also at this year’s MOTEK trade fair, VUES was represented in the field of motor manufacturer by its German subsidiary VSM Antriebstechnik GmbH (VUES Servomotors) as an exhibitor. Servomotors were our main topic this year. In this field, attention was drawn especially by our new series of servomotors which, with its new standardized coupling, is a real alternative to pneumatic or hydraulic drives.

    Also this year VSM Antriebstechnik GmbH will support selected teams of Formula Student Germany (FSG) by customized VUES motors. FSG and, especially, Formula Student Electric (FSE) is an international student competition with the aim to design an electrically powered monoposto – formula vehicle, and also to manufacture a functional prototype. It also applies that this prototype will be tested in various static and dynamic disciplines. In addition, students must draw up a real business plan which will be included, along with the appropriate market concept for small-batch production, in the overall evaluation of the competition. The advantages of our two water-cooled AFW servomotors are evident: the maximum long-term power and continuous torques at the minimum dimensions of the motor. These are the ideal properties which teams require for construction in a small space using the extraordinary motor power. The picture shows the team of University Siegen (S3Racing) and Technical University together with the team of the University in Kaiserslautern (Karat-Racing). For this year’s competition, both teams presented specially adjusted AFW motors from VUES. We wish our teams a lot of luck and success in the remaining part of the ongoing competition in 2015 and already now we look forward to our further cooperation in the year to come.     Cooperation in the development of electric rotating machines between VUES Brno s.r.o. and Brno University of Technology

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has been active on the market as a development and production company. it is focused on custom, non-standard designs of electric rotating machines according to customers’ requirements. The company has its own development base and, in addition, it has been cooperating with experts from the Brno University of Technology (VUT) for a long time. An example can be our joint project titled “Research centre for special rotating machines” in which, apart from the above-mentioned companies VUES Brno and VUT, another 9 industrial and research companies are involved within a consortium. This project is implemented with support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. The output of the cooperation between VUES Brno s.r.o. and VUT Brno within the project will be functional samples of high-speed machines with power parameters from 6 kW to 200 kW and speed ranges from 20 000 rpm to 120 000 rpm.

    Laboratories for testing material properties

    As part of the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations – Potential programme, the laboratories of VUES Brno, s.r.o. were equipped with new equipment in 2014 including that for testing the properties of materials for magnetic circuits of electric rotating machines. These measurements serve mainly as supporting means in the development of new drives. Apart from the characteristics of permanent magnets and laminations it is possible to measure the properties of construction steels. An example of these operations is checking the influence of the composition and heat treatment of steels on their mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties.     Operation of new technologies

    In April 2015, we started a full three-shift operation on the newly purchased horizontal boring machine WFC 110 CNC from Fermat, located at the Jarní establishment. With this step we have significantly strengthened VUES Brno s.r.o. capacities and we have become self-reliant in operations which had to be performed in cooperation. The high precision and universal possibilities of this machine and new technological possibilities enable us to increase labour productivity, to further extend the production range and to improve the quality of our products.

    Our projects within OPEI

    The projects of VUES Brno s.r.o. titled “Extension of the company’s research and development base” and “New type of a rare earth based permanent magnet generator” were finished successfully in 2014. The projects were solved in the POTENTIAL and INNOVATIONS programmes in the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations (OPEI) supported by the European Regional Development Fund. The output of the first project is extension of VUES Brno s.r.o.’s research and development base with the DYNOFIT MEGA M421 test stand for experimental testing of machines with rare earth based permanent magnets and energy recovery up to 800 kW and with a laboratory for testing new materials for the windings of electrical machines in a total investment value of CZK 12.2 mil. The output of the other project was supplementation of VUES Brno s.r.o.’s production capacity with three powerful CNC machines in a total investment value of CZK 27.2 mil. to streamline the technological production process of a new innovated special low-speed generator designed for turbine units for small hydroelectric power plants and its putting on the export market.

    M350 Control Unit with Measuring and Internet Connection

    In March 2015, the production of innovated M350 control units with measuring was started. It allows to use Internet connection for setting and displaying values. The M350 control unit can be controlled from a computer connected to the Internet. The original communication links are still available in the unit.  The M350 unit serves for loading induction dynamometers or drives with strain-gauge shafts in four-quadrant mode. Loading can be performed in a speed or torque coupling with simultaneously displaying the measured values.   The M350 unit is an integral part of the test stands series: ● DYNOFIT BASIC ● DYNOFIT DRIVE ● DYNOFIT MEGA ● DYNOFIT EDULAB 

    Active education – the right chance for VUES

    As a part of the Active education – the right chance for VUES project, registration number CZ.1.04/1.1.02/94.00106, a professional internal training took place. It was focused on the production of components for programming machine monitoring. The Active education project is aimed at professional training of employees focused, in particular, on intensifying, extending, improving and maintaining qualification, and also on education in the field of key skills which increase the sustainability of employment and employability on the labour market and, last but not least, on applying all forms of employee education according to the specific needs of employers including preparing on a specific scope of employment for a particular job position. The target group of supported employees includes the employees of VUES Brno s.r.o.

    Accredited Calibration Laboratory

    To improve metrological services provided internally for VUES Brno s.r.o., as well as for external customers, the laboratory was accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute ( in 2014 on the basis of meeting the requirements of EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 under the name Calibration Laboratory EVZ-VUES Brno s.r.o. No. 2385. The Accredited Calibration Laboratory covers a wide range of calibrated quantities in the field of electric quantities, frequency, time, and rpm measurement.

    VUES is engine partner in the Formula Student

    This year VUES is again an engine partner in the Formula Student Germany. VUES follows the trend of down-sizing and can recover a motor with a reduced overall length, with the same flange size, increasing the power density of the Formula engines significantly. Teams bring much more comprehensive design proposals, including motor kit in self-constructed housing. The first test engines are already delivered soon, so that the electronics can be optimally adjusted to the motors. VUES wishes the teams of the Formula Student Germany a lot of fun and success.

    This year VUES Brno was s.r.o. represented at the Motek in Stuttgart. TheMotek International Trade Fair is one of the leading events in the area of production and assembly automation. Motek clearly focusesonthe entire world of automation. Our 2014stand has grown compared to last years in order to provide additional space for discussions with visitors and new product presentations.. This year's highlight was a hollow shaft servo motor with gearbox, that complements the performance from the area of high-pole torque motors by the scalability and variability of a servo motor. We look forward to welcome you again at Motek also next year.

    DYNOFIT EDULAB test stand

    VUES Brno s.r.o. delivered  a DYNOFIT EDULAB test stand for technical secondary school Střední škola techniky a služeb in Karviná. Thip project was supported by a subsidy from the Operational program Support of natural science and technical education NatTech MSK (Podpora přírodovědného a technického vzdělávání v Moravskoslezském kraji). DYNOFIT EDULAB test stand is developed specifically for educational activities and features a set of quick interchangeable test motors up to 3kW, on which students perform basic electric measurements, explore differences between variety of electromagnetic designs and principles. With this new equipment will students  practically verify knowledge gained during education through the school year. DYNOFIT EDULAB test stand is a part of the new opened electro technical laboratory along with multifunctional laboratory tables supplied by company DIAMETRAL spol.s r.o.

    Successful Formula Student teams with VUES engines

    From July 31 to August 3 far over 100 teams from around the world met at the Hockenheimring for Formula Student Germany 2014th. A real race did not take place at the Formula Student Germany 2014; this is the organizers too dangerous. It is run against the clock: Acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, these are the dynamic contests. To participate in this at all, the vehicles have comprehensive tests. In the so-called scrutineering safety is attested. The unbelted driver must be able to exit the race car in the prescribed time, electric vehicles have to prove that the high-voltage network is isolated from the vehicle, even under irrigation. The brakes are tested, the density, e.g. the cooling circuit on a tilt table which simulates large lateral acceleration. Be considered not only the dynamic contests. Furthermore, there are also points for the presentations about the business plan or technical design. The performance of electric vehicles is also limited on durable 85 kW. To monitor the teams must integrate power meter, which records the current drain from the battery. If a vehicle exceeds this value, the corresponding competition will not count. Thus, the efficiency of the powertrain is the key parameter to be the last milliseconds faster. Two VUES engines based on AFW507E drive the rear wheels, supported by Torque Vectoring. The high engine speeds converts a self-constructed gear in over 1,000 Nm output power. Additional points in the design contest were for self-development of the motor housing, always with the aim to save weight.

    The electric BLDC motor for fuel metering pump

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has successfully completed a joint project with Jihostroj a.s. focused on the development of an innovative solution for driving a fuel metering pump of an aircraft jet engine. The fuel metering pump of the aircraft jet engine is driven by an electric motor and the fuel flow to the engine is controlled by changing the engine speed. The FMP is comprised of a fuel pump module, a BLDC electric motor, and control electronics which provides control of the speed of the BLDC electric motor and also communication with the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) of the turbine engine. It is a very modern concept which is a part of the latest development trends in aircraft turbine engines, so-called “More Electric Engines.” The aim of this construction philosophy is substitution of the mechanical drives of jet engine power units for power units driven by electric motors. Using this method proved to save  energy in engine functional components electric supply, thus increasing the efficiency of the entire engine. Another advantage is a improved independence of the functional components on a specific engine configuration, which enables to create a unified family of products, which would be, after less significant construction modifications, always applicable to a new project. This modularity  will bring another cost saving and will substantially reduce the time necessary for introduction to serial production. As part of the project, VUES Brno s.r.o. designed a BLDC motor working in the heavy duty  conditions of hot turbine engines fuel, where it met high demands for reliability and power assignment while retaining its low weight. The entire fuel metering pump unit has successfully undergone certification by EASA in build-up in an auxiliary power unit. This unit was first introduced in the new generation of two-engine civil helicopters Agusta Westland  AW 189, which were certified for air traffic in February 2014.

    Direct drives with sliding bearing

    Servo motors are usually equipped with preloaded bearings to compensate the thermal expansion of the rotor from the ambient temperature up to temperatures of over 100°C during operation. Thus, a low-wear operation can be guaranteed. High-torque direct drives, known as torque motors are usually connected directly to the load. The thermal expansion of the load must from now on also be considered. For a particularly rigid connection of the motor to the load VUES Brno s.r.o can now guarantee an axial displacement of +/- 0.5 mm by constructive changes without reducing the power. So drive more direct!

    Servomotor AF633

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed a special servomotor designed mainly for the food processing industry. It is a servomotor, type AF633, made of stainless materials with the degree of protection IP69K. This increased degree of protection allows the motor to be sprayed by hot liquid while meeting high sanitary requirements. This year this servomotor was displayed successfully at trade fairs MOTEK in Stuttgart and SPS in Nuremberg.

    A series of induction motors with permanent magnets

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has been supplying the market with induction low-speed motors for direct drive of cooling tower fans used in the and power engineering for many years. The power range of these machines is 40 to 200 kW. They are vertical motors of robust construction with the requirements for high reliability and long life. Use of these induction low-speed motors brings a significant environmental effect since they replace standard asynchronous motors with oil-filled gearboxes. Possible oil leaks from gearboxes always meant an ecological accident and degraded cooling liquid. VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed a series of synchronous motors with permanent magnets for driving cooling tower fans. The newly developed synchronous motors provide a further qualitative shift in this progressive technology. The parameters of synchronous motors verified by type tests have confirmed the assumption of increasing the efficiency of motors by 2-3%, which means both an economic benefit for cooling tower users and an environmental benefit of electric power saving in connection with a direct ecological effect on the environment. Energy savings are even in optimized operations - motors are supplied from static converters and allow to control speed (and thus input power) according to the immediate need of the cooling output. The new series of synchronous motors with permanent magnets on the rotor supplied from static frequency converters is offered in the following power range: Motor power: 30 kW - 200 kW Speed range: 0 - 200 rpm Protection rating: IP 54

    New production hall

    On September 16, 2013, a prefabricated single-nave hall with built-in office and sanitary facilities was put into permanent operation. The hall was built by JANEČEK building society s.r.o. on the premises of VUES Brno s.r.o. in Jarní Street, Maloměřice according to a project of VUES Brno s.r.o. as a reconstruction of the unused hall of the energy block. This project was implemented within the Real Estate programme of the operational programme Enterprise and Innovation supported by the European Regional Development Fund. The construction work only lasted 3 months and, on September 27, 2013, the construction was successfully approved by the respective building authority. The hall will serve for the manufacturing and handling of heavy metal parts.

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has been a technology partner in the last race season for Speeding Scientists Siegen.

    From 30 July to 4 August over 100 teams from around the world met at the Hockenheimring for Formula Student Germany 2013. Beside the dynamic contests, furthermore there are also points for the presentations about the business plan or technical design.   The performance of the electric vehicle is restricted to 85 kW. To monitor the teams must integrate a provided by the organizer meter, which records the current drain from the battery. If a vehicle exceeds this value, the corresponding competition will not be counted. Despite these limitations, the performance of Speeding Scientists Siegen are breathtaking. 3.96 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, which is almost an acceleration of free fall. As outdated as a race car with its acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h 2.9 s been over a distance of 75 meters in most over the counter supercar. Especially since it also counts the weight, here a female Speeding scientist was successful. For electric vehicles is still a lot of experimenting everywhere: The Team from Siegen uses two VUES engines based on a AFW507, torque vectoring to transfer the maximum power to each wheel. The high rotional speed converts a self-constructed transmission in more than 1000 Nm output force. Additional points were praised for the development of the backlash-free steering. VUES Brno s.r.o. is looking forward to even greater cooperation and keeps the fingers crossed for the upcoming races in Spain.

    Enterprise-Based Education & Training

    In 2012, VUES Brno s.r.o. decided to respond to the call “Number 94 – Enterprise-Based Education & Training” for submitting a project for gaining a subsidy for enterprise-based education and training from the EU funds.     Motors for nuclear power plants

    AMJ Range Nuclear energy has its irreplaceable position in power generation in the Czech Republic. In both Czech nuclear power plants, it is necessary to gradually replace the electric motors which must meet various levels of nuclear classification  for installation in individual zones. VUES Brno has developed for these applications a range of induction motors which meet the requirements on radiation and seismic classification.     VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed a number of encapsulated primary parts of linear motors designated as L7S. The advantage of these primary parts of linear motors is their protection against spray liquid. The primary part is located in a stainless steel sheet enclosure. Use of these linear motors is suitable particularly in the drives of machine tool axes (spray cooling emulsion) or in the drives of equipment for the food-processing industry. Specimens of this series have already been on display at the Motec Stuttgart and SPS Nurenberg trade fairs.  

    Ecological technology

    On 24.10.2012, permanent operation was started of the System for catalytic oxidation of organic volatile substances from impregnating fire kiln KWAN including waste-heat recovery equipment supplied by VAKADING spol. s r.o. The project was co-financed by the European Union – European Regional Development Fund  and the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic within the Operational Programme Environment.

    Eelectric drives and machines laboratory

    Graz University of Technology / Electric Drives and Machines Institute, Graz, Austria This year the Electric Drives and Machines Institute, which is a part of the Graz University of Technology, officially opened a new electric drives and machines laboratory. As a part of this important event in the Institute’s history, there was a symposium at which the representatives of electrical companies from Canada and the USA had their speeches. A presentation of the Institute’s activities and a tour of its laboratories were prepared for invited guests. It was decided to build a new drives and machines laboratory in connection with the relocation of the Electric Drives and Machines Institute from Campus Neue Technik to Campus Inffeldgasse. In relation to building a new laboratory, the Institute’s management decided to replace the existing, not fully suitable technology with a new technology which would better meet the current trends in teaching or scientific work. One of the companies addressed to implement this plan was also VUES Brno s.r.o. After joint consultations of the Institute’s and our company’s personnel, a project of load stand control panels was created and it met all of the customer’s requirements with the perspective of long-term utilization in both teaching and scientific work. VUES Brno made and supplied a total of twelve control panels arranged in three groups. The panels are designed is such a way as to allow controlling the load stands in a clear way, switching various power supply units and connecting external measuring instruments depending on experiments being performed.

    Laboratory of Gears and Electric Drives

    Josef Božek Centre of Vehicles for Sustainable Mobility – Laboratory of Gears and Electric Drives On 13 June 2012, the Josef Božek Centre of Vehicles for Sustainable Mobility was officially opened. This centre was built within the project “Acquisition of Technology for the Centre of Vehicles for Sustainable Mobility” supported by a subsidy from the Operational programme Research and Development for Innovations and it is located in the building of the Scientific- Technical Park Roztoky u Prahy. Its activity will be focused on equipment and technologies for research of new solutions and on optimizing the current concepts of piston motors for vehicles and power engineering and power units of vehicles including electric and hybrid vehicles and their integrated control in relation to efficiency, environmental impacts, utility value in terms of mobility and, finally, the resulting competitive strength of companies associated with domestic industry. The scientific-technical park is a modern complex built for the purposes of applied research and science. The initiator of its creation and the contractor is Trigema a.s. in cooperation with the Czech Technical University and with support from the Operational programme Enterprise and Innovations – Prosperity programme. Our company is the supplier of a major part of the technology for the Laboratory of Gears and Electric Drives – gear test stand, dynamometric stand, measuring equipment for dynamometric stand and experimental high-speed motor.

    Audit by TÜV NORD

    During April 2012, VUES was subjected to a repeated audit of the quality management system acc. to EN ISO 9001:2008 and a surveillance audit of the environmental management system acc. to EN ISO 14001:2005. The certified body TÜV NORD confirmed that VUES Brno met the requirements of both audited systems at all workplaces and locations and it actively uses and develops the systems. New certificates were issued based on the positive audit result. The updated certificates can be downloaded at the "About the Company" section.

    Special exciters for synchronous generators

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed and supplied to a customer 4 special exciters for synchronous generators. The exciters were designed as a custom solution to be built in a specific type of generators. The supplied exciters BB690-16/600A provide the following parameters: ● continuous load: Un = 86 VDC ; In = 368 ADC ● overload: U = 210 VDC ; I = 613 ADC VUES Brno s.r.o. offers development and manufacturing of exciters according to the required integration and specified parameters of the customer. Apart from the development and supplies of main exciters, we offer also auxiliary exciters with permanent magnets (pilot exciters).     Custom solution

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed and supplied to a customer a special high-speed induction motor AFM30. It is a custom solution designed for use in a high-speed test stand. In continuous operation and supplied from a stationary frequency converter, the AFM30 motor provides the following parameters: ● n = 30 000min-1 ● P = 7,5kW ● Un = 360 V ● In = 16 A ● IP55 ● IM3031 ● moment of inertia 0,011kgm2 VUES Brno s.r.o. supplies similar high-speed motors also in designs for the food-processing and pharmaceutical industries (structural design of stainless steel type).

    Hydraulic Laboratory in ČKD Blansko Engineering, a.s.

    On 08.12.2011, a Hydraulic Laboratory was put into full service in ČKD Blansko Engineering, a.s., a member of LITOSTROJ POWER Group (Slovenia). This official event took place with a participation of very important guests from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, India, Serbia, and other countries. The Hydraulic Laboratory is a unique workplace allowing to test, on two test circuits, models of all known water machines in both horizontal and vertical arrangement. VUES Brno s.r.o. participated in the construction of the Hydraulic Laboratory by supplying the control system for the test stand including data acquisition and application software for the test course visualization. The supplied system allows to control the operation of all test circuits from a single central station. The operator remotely controls from the panels the run of individual pumps, regulating elements and auxiliary drives.  The visualization software provides the operator with a perfect overview of the current state of test circuits. The central control station enabled to substantially increase the effectiveness of performed tests and thus also the operation of the entire laboratory. This project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.

    Special courses

    VUES Brno s.r.o. organized special courses focused on developing IT skills for selected personnel of the company. A total of 86 employees participated in the integrated educational process. This educational process is generally considered to be very successful. At present, intensive language courses are taking place. The company’s management regars both of these educational activities as priority, especially for office workers to whom language skills and computer literacy will serve as the means for coping the increasing pressure on the quality and productivity of work performed. VUES Brno s.r.o. realizes that the current trend of a continuous improvement and extension of its staff’s qualification is necessary for maintaining the company’s competitive strength. Also in the following period the company wants to invest funds in education and thus to motivate its employees to their targeted professional development.

    High-speed servomotors

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed and supplies high-speed servomotors with a speed range of 10 000 to 30 000 rpm and a power of up to 2.5 kW. These new servomotors have a special rotor mount and they are designed for use, for example, at test stands for testing power hand tools.

    Synchronous motors with rare-earth-based permanent magnets for driving cableways

    Progress in the manufacturing technology of machines with rare-earth-based permanent magnets gives a real possibility of applying higher power drives with synchronous motors excited by permanent magnets in such applications where a high torque is required from zero speed.  Another advantage of these drives is their increased efficiency – the drives show a higher utility value and operating cost savings. A very significant parameter is a weight reduction compared to standard motors, because these drives are located at the upper stations of cableways. This aspect is decisive particularly in these drives of cableways. The machines have been designed especially in relation to their high operating reliability. Despite this, in case of a failure, these motors have galvanically separated stator winding sections which allow the passengers to reach the nearest station in case of an emergency. The first 4 motors were put into service last year and, after they are verified successfully, another series is prepared for installation this year. This specific application is based on a project partly funded from the resources of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.  

    32nd National Electric Drives Conference

    VUES Brno s.r.o.’ personnel actively participated in the 32nd National Electric Drives Conference, this year organized under the auspices of the Czech Electrical Engineering Society of the Central Specialist Group Electric Drives and the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň from 14 to 16 June 2011.  The conference took place in the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The conference was divided to four blocks: · Block I dealt with the current problems in electric traction – using traction motors with permanent magnets, using ultra-capacitors for hybrid drives of vehicles, experience in testing and solving theoretical problems related to this issue. · Block II provided an overview of the current technical progress trends in the selected field of drives – in mining motors, power converters, in solving regulation and control. · Block III was focused on technical aspects and experience with using regulated electric drives and on unconventional power sources – photovoltaic power plants. Block IV acquainted the audience with the results of research projects and with new information on the systems and subsystems of electric drives. The first part of the block was presented in the hall, the other at panels. Within Block III (Drives in power plants, heating plants and water treatment plants) the following contribution was presented: “Turbocharger with high-speed motor ATUR 233/40.” A total of 40 papers were presented at the conference and in Block VI B, 25 papers were presented at panels in the discussion part.     A series of synchronous motors with rare-earth permanent magnets with an increased efficiency for cooling towers

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has been supplying the market with asynchronous low-speed motors for direct drive of cooling tower fans used in the processing industry and power engineering for many years. The typical power range of these machines is 75 to 110 kW. They are vertical motors of robust construction with the requirements for high reliability and long life. Already the first generation of these asynchronous low-speed motors brought a significant environmental effect by replacing the original standard motors with oil-filled gearboxes. Possible oil leaks from gearboxes of the original design always meant an environmental disaster and they impaired the cooling liquid in the entire cooling circuit.  VUES Brno s.r.o. has developed a series of synchronous motors with permanent magnets for driving cooling tower fans. The development costs were supported financially by the Ministry of Industry and Trade from the development programme Impuls. The newly developed synchronous motors provide a further qualitative shift in this progressive technology. Motors in this application work in continuous operation, practically continuously. The parameters of synchronous motors verified by type tests have confirmed the assumption of increasing the efficiency of these motors by 2-3%, which means both a significant economic benefit for cooling tower users and an environmental benefit of electric power saving in connection with an ecological impact on the environment. More energy savings can be expected by optimizing the cooling circuit operation – motors are supplied from static converters providing comfortable speed control (and thus input power) according to the immediate demand of the cooling output. The new series of synchronous motors with rare-earth permanent magnets on the rotor for supplying from static frequency converters is offered in the following power configuration: ● Motor power:                      45 kW – 110 kW ● Speed range:                       0 – 200 rpm ● Degree of protection:       IP 54

    Project EDUCA

    VUES Brno s.r.o. keeps supporting the intensive and systematic professional development of its employees, which it perceives as a clear competitive advantage. In 2010, VUES Brno s.r.o. decided to respond to the call “Further professional development of employees of business entities in industry – EDUCA” for submitting a grant project to gain a subsidy for company education from the EU resources. By a decision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the application for granting subsidy was approved and VUES Brno s.r.o. has been granted a financial subsidy from the European Social Fund (ESF) via the Operational programme Human Resources and Employment (OPLZZ). VUES Brno s.r.o. presents its project number CZ.1.04/1.104/60.00150 titled "Who will make special motors tomorrow" on the website of the European Social Fund at and more information on drawing subsidies from the EU funds via operational programmes in the field of human resources can also be found on this website. The aims of this project include: ● Development of professional skills of employees by organizing general and specific trainings; ● Providing employees with the necessary skills to improve the quality of their work; ● Preparing employees for the performance of newly created, highly specialist professions; ● Increasing the motivation of employees by enabling their personal growth; ● Stabilizing employees for the future; ● Realizing education for a wider circle of employees – the project activities to be focused also on new employees; ● Innovation of the current educational plan; introducing new procedures and elements into education; ● Development of internal trainings; ● Increasing the applicant’s competitive strength by professional development of employees while improving labour quality and productivity; ● Improving technological procedures and methods; increasing productivity and eliminating product nonconformities; maintaining research and development activities in the company.

    Large machines up to 15 t

    Owing to its investments in a new production hall equipped with large machining centres, VUES Brno s.r.o. is now able to manufacture large electric rotating machines up to a weight of 15 t. The figures show an example of manufacture and tests of a synchronous machine from VUES Brno’s manufacturing programme.  

    New design of the linear motor L3S

    We are developing new design of the linear motor L3S with increased protection for using in axis drives of cooling emulsion washed machine tools. The linear motor design protects the active sections of the primary parts against the abrasive wear from machined waste metal contained in technological fluids.

    Asynchronous generator ASGN 450-8/W

    VUES Brno s.r.o. participates in the development of utilizing the energy of ocean currents. It is a clean and permanent power source. The project was started as early as 2000 under the title SEAFLOW and continued in 2005 under the title SEAGEN. The following year, two generators were installed in the north of Scotland, each with the power of 600 kW, which started to supply power in trial operation. This project continues and currently a new power unit is being prepared in which VUES Brno s.r.o. has a significant share. The company supplies the core of the entire project – asynchronous generator ASGN 450-8/W. This project is cooperation of three companies – MCT, Schneider Electric pDRIVE and VUES Brno). It is comprised of a propeller (MCT), which drives the asynchronous generator (VUES Brno) via gearbox and the generator, via frequency converter (Schneider Electric pDRIVE), supplies electric power to the network. Two power units are located on a vertically movable cross beam which enables to position the units to working position 15 m underwater. For service operations, the whole system is lifted 5 m above sea level. The remaining components are located in a tower 3 m in diameter. It is natural that also the dimensions of the transformer, frequency converter and other components must be adapted to this. The asynchronous generator ASGN 450-8/W has the following parameters: Power kW  637,311 Rated speed rpm 1000 Rated torque Nm  6300,9 Wiring - D Output voltage  V 3 x 720,0 Rated frequency Hz 66,2 Rated current  A 633,0 Number of poles - 8 Maximum speed rpm 2500 The entire project tries to be very friendly to the environment. The proof of this is also a new modification in the existing design of the generator in which a brake will be built and it will serve for quick stopping of the generator and thus the driving propeller. The whole system is equipped with a sonar which monitors the movement of sea animals in the vicinity of the propellers. If such animals approach within a distance of 15 m to the installation, a signal is activated to start the brake and stop the propellers.

    Built-in power supply unit for military use

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has completed the development of a prototype of a power supply unit designed for applications in the army. The project, which was implemented within the IMPULS programme with financial support from the state budget resources via the Ministry of Industry and Trade, was started in 2008 and will be finished by the final opposition proceeding in 2010. The new modular concept of the power supply unit brings new technical requirements which have been solved successfully by a team of developers. The requirements include, in particular, the method of cooling the motor, generator and electronic elements in a closed space and suppression of undesired unmasking signs, especially the electromagnetic and heat radiation. Standard and tested procedures were supplemented with new technologies which enabled to operate the equipment in a limited space producing waste heat along with the necessary electronic units for control and regulation and which ensured perfect shielding of the electromagnetic interference so that individual parts are not mutually affected and electromagnetic interference does not leak into the ambient space. The electromagnetic radiation suppression was one of the main criteria for selecting electrical elements. If the necessary parts were not available on the global market, the manufacturer developed its own single-purpose parts (controller, interference suppression elements) which were subjected to the necessary tests in the authorized testing laboratory for electromagnetic compatibility, as well as the entire power supply unit at the end. Similarly, the designers had to cope with the limitation of heat radiation. The liquid cooling of the motor was connected to the cooling system of the synchronous generator of the company’s own construction and to the unique coolers of the exhaust system, which prevent heat from radiating to the limited space of the cabinet and at the same time they cool exhaust fumes to make identification during an enemy survey in the infrared spectrum region more difficult.     Special induction motor

    ATUR 233/40 During 2009, VUES s.r.o. activated the drives of two TurboCirculators for ATEKO Hradec Králové. The TurboCirculator is used for the circulation of helium at a high pressure during cooling of tritium modules in the tokamak ITER being prepared (   Sectional view of tokamak ITER The tested TurboCirculators will be installed into experimental devices in Italy and Germany during 2010. The drive unit of the TurboCirculator is a special built-in high-speed induction squirrel-cage motor ATUR 233/40 with an output of 233 kW at 40,000 rpm made in VUES Brno s.r.o. The motor has combined cooling – by water in the stator shell and by helium, which is supplied to the internal space of the motor. The motor is provided with magnetic bearings and emergency ceramic bearings for the rotor run-out in case of a failure of the bearing system. The motor is power supplied by means of a modular frequency converter SPM. The converter is equipped with a rectifying module SPMC and three inverters SMPD together with the appropriate filters and chokes.

    Innovation of the servo-actuators

    VUES Brno s.r.o. offers custom solutions of servo-actuators (servomotors with ball screws built in hollow shafts) based on the MA40, MA50 and AF series. Shown is an AF series servo-actuator with a through rotor and a lift of 1500 mm.

    Innovation of the DYNOFIT test stands

    VUES Brno s.r.o. has innovated a series of basic test stands of the DYNOFIT type. The welded and subsequently varnished steel structures of the load assemblies of test stands have been replaced with a modular system which uses anodized aluminium sections with longitudinal grooves and holes for fixing the jointing elements. Also the lifting table designed for fixing the tested motor has undergone a complete reconstruction. So customers have been offered a quick and comfortable preparation of a motor for tests. In addition, the innovated series of stands fully uses digital speed and torque control, which enables to set standard constant loads and also to define, using programmable functions, loading characteristics to achieve the real load simulation.

    Workshop of the European Defence Agency in Brussels

    In the first decade of February, the European Defence Agency (EDA) organized a workshop in its seat in Brussels thematically focused on power sources for ground forces and related technologies. The Czech Republic was represented at this international forum by a presentation prepared in VUES Brno s.r.o. in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. In the given presentation, we acquainted the participants, among them government experts from the EU member states, apart from representatives of industry, with our experience in the development and production of power units designed for supplying weapon systems and means of ground forces with electric power, and also we submitted suggestions for possible cooperation in developing components for power sources. So this is the possibility to participate in creating an international competition of the efficient market in defensive equipment and defensive technologies in Europe, which is also one of the goals of the European Defence Agency.

    New Power Plant in Frauenfeld

    In the middle of January, a new small hydraulic power plant was put into trial operation in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, as the result of cooperation of Watec-Hydro with VUES Brno s.r.o. The power plant is equipped with a low-speed generator with permanent magnets with the power of 125 kVA from VUES, driven by a Kaplan turbine from Watec-Hydro. The breakthrough new feature of this installation is both the direct drive of the low-speed generator and, in particular, direct connection to the distribution network without a frequency converter which has been necessary up to now. In the framework period of two months, another three new power plants in Germany and Italy with installed power from 175 to 250 kVA, equipped with a similar technology, will join this pilot project.

    Long-term personnel strategy

    Based on our long-term personnel strategy, we place the greatest emphasis on cooperation of our experienced personnel with graduates and younger colleagues. For a long time we have been cooperating with the Brno University of Technology – the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication. We offer students professional practices and attachments and we enable selected students to consult our specialists regarding problems in working out their final theses. Within these activities, we manage to gain perspective young specialists for the company. In practice, we apply an individual remuneration system placing an emphasis on appreciation of employees who bring the company cost savings or innovative ideas. The management of VUES Brno s.r.o. is very much aware that continuity must be secured for the further development of the company, particularly in the personnel area and in the education of young, professionally qualified and active people.

    The 2nd anniversary of mechanical production on the manufacturing premises “Jarní”

    In January 2008, all manufacturing equipment providing machine cutting and related activities of our company started to be relocated from the premises in Mostecká Street to the then newly acquired location in Jarní Street in Maloměřice. In the following months, the production hall with a total area of 3 000 m2 proved its utility consisting in the concentration of production and its simpler logistics. Besides, the relocation of machines enabled us to make extensive conversions of the large hall on the premises in Mostecká Street, and it was subsequently converted into a modern and spatially convenient centre of final products assembly. Correctness of this investment has been proven in the course of time not only by economic parameters, but also by employees working in this locality and, what we appreciate most, by our customers.

    Special traction motors from VUES Brno s.r.o. in the exhibit that has been awarded with the Gold Medal at the International Engineering Trade Fair Brno 2009

    The Gold Medal at the International Trade Fair Brno in the "Innovative Product" category has been given to tram T15 from the manufacturer and exhibitor Škoda Transportation a.s. These new generation low-floor trams are driven by synchroneous motors with rare-earth-based permanent magnets. The structural design of the motors enables to install them outside of each of the driven wheels and it has enabled to design the traction vehicle body without demands on the location of driven units under the floor. In cooperation with Škoda Electric a.s., VUES Brno s.r.o. has taken a substantial part in the development of these motors, particularly in the electromagnetic and structural solution and in the design of series production technology which has already been started in Škoda Plzeň.

    Traction motors of TSM series

    At the 51st International Engineering Fair in Brno, our company will present a newly developed traction motors of TSM series. They are synchronous multi-pole motors excited by permanent magnets on the inner rotor. To achieve a high specific torque (rated torque related to the inner cubic capacity of the machine) they are designed with water cooling which secures the optimum outlet of motor losses at a high degree of protection. The torque-speed curve of the TSM series motors is suitable for using in the range of low speeds, for direct traction drives (without using a gearbox) of trams, suburban rail transport, trains, trolleybuses, and road independent traction.

    New series of compact water cooled permanent magnets servomotors

    VUES Brno will presented on the fair SPS Nürnberg 2008 the new developed series of 12poles water cooled permanent magnet servomotors. The new 12 poles servomotors AFW feature high power performance in small dimensions. A variety of mechanical version and windings for different speeds can be delivered for customized motors on request.

    High-speed built-in induction motor of the type ATK

    On October 21, 2008 Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be festively put into operation in European laboratory of nuclear research in Geneva. In the current condition of LHC system approximately 1800 superconducting magnets (in the tunnel 27 km long) of the total mass about 3 200 000 kg (superconductors and corresponding low-temperature parts) are, after two months of cooling, at the temperature close to the operating one - 4.2, some of them even 1.8 Kelvins, i.e. 269 or -271 °C. Power input of 4 Helium liquefiers with the unit cooling power of approx. 20 kW is about 80 MWe.
